How it works:
Book Buddies is a subscription-based curated virtual community for writers that supports all aspects of the writers’ life. Membership provides opportunities for generating work and brainstorming project ideas in community, regular feedback on your work from intimate groups, craft instruction, occasional community-wide challenges, along with fun and meaningful fellowship with other writers. A Book Buddy membership will keep you writing by holding you accountable, giving you the tools to level up your technique, and being the very best, most sincere hype squad/cheerleaders you’ll ever encounter. It’s like a gym membership but for writers!
How to Engage:
There are three tiers of Book Buddy membership:
Book Buddies Basic (Tier 1) Includes:
Access to generative writing sessions (affectionately called “Gen Writing”) twice a week on Tuesdays at 6:30-8:30pm EST and Saturdays from 10am -noon EST. In a google doc all BBs have access to, Kate posts two prompts every week. One is in support of generating a new piece of writing, and the other is in support of revising a work in progress. We check in and unpack the prompts at the start of class, then everyone writes independently for a 60 minute block, after which we take a 5 minute break before reconvening. Writers have the opportunity to read hot off the press work out loud for on the spot encouraging feedback, and to share about how the writing went during the hour or how their writing practice is feeling generally. Book Buddies are not obligated to come to every Gen writing session, but can if they want to!
OR:
A seat in a small feedback group (capped at 6 writers) that meets for 90 minutes bi-weekly. One week ahead of each meeting 1-2 writers submit between 10-15 double spaced pages via email to their group who will read in preparation for discussion on the meeting date. No written feedback is required. Writers get eyes on their pages every 3-6 meetings, and discussions skew in the direction of supportive brainstorming, specific craft centric praise, and collective problem solving based on the writers’ needs and desires for their own work. Discussions also sometimes feature intensive craft lessons. REGISTER HERE

“I don’t know how anyone does a low-residency MFA program without Book Buddies. In between residencies I’m thrown into this vacuum where I’m supposed to be producing A TON of work. Book Buddies has given me the rocket fuel (and the set times) to fire up my writing. Between the rocking generative writing and work sessions amd killer community support, not to mention the ON FIRE retreats, I have the supportive writing network I’ve always craved.”

"Meeting with Kate and my fellow book buddies is the highlight of my week. I look forward to it so much! I work really well with some gentle accountability and Kate helps foster that in a positive, fun environment. The sense of community she nurtures in her groups is amazing for self motivation and getting in the perfect headspace for writing. I come out of our meetings relaxed, motivated, and with tons of ideas.”
